While the scorching summer temperatures continue, a reminder of winter is in the works in downtown Troy.

Christmas in July, a event involving many businesses downtown, is running through the week and concludes on Friday, July 25. Businesses including Dolce, Milky Moo’s, Pink Parlor, Douglas Brothers Jewelry, First Impressions, Glow, Cotton Creek, and other favorite downtown stores are participating, with specials, sales, and Christmas themed decorations and items for sale.

“It’s such a great event. I was putting up decorations and it brought a tear to my eye—when I realized how much I love Christmas,” Dolce owner Jamey McDaniel said. “It’s such a great break from the normal everyday.”

Jamey and Sandy McDaniel said they initiated the idea for a Christmas-themed event and other businesses jumped on board.

“I want to say 15 years ago, there used to be a Christmas in July event in Troy,” Jamey McDaniel said. “We wanted to bring it back, and of course make it bigger and better next year.”

Dolce will host a holiday reception on July 25th from 5 to 7 p.m.

Milky Moo’s is featuring a variety of holiday-flavored ice creams this week to get in the festive spirit. Flavors include Gingerbread Man, Christmas Mint, Peppermint, Eggnog, Pumpkin Latte, and Reindeer Poop, which is white chocolate ice cream with chocolate covered peanuts.

“A lot of people come in and ask what kind of ice cream Reindeer Poop is,” Milky Moo’s Assistant Manager Karen Senn said. “Or they will just point at it and say they want it instead of saying the name.”
