Polls for the primary runoff election will be open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Republican voters will choose candidates for three state positions and all voters will have a say in a proposed amendment to the state’s Constitution.

For Secretary of State, Reese McKinney will face John Merrill on the Republican ballot.

Also on the ballot are candidates for state auditor, Dale Peterson and Jim Zeigler. Place Two on the Public Service Commission has been narrowed down to two Republican candidates: Chris “Chip” Beeker, Jr. and Terry Dunn. The runoff amendment would allow cotton farmers to hold an election to determine whether or not to make contributions to a statewide research and marketing program mandatory.

Last month’s primary was the first election to require voters to present photo I.D. Voters who come to the polls without valid identification will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot unless two election officials can verify the voter is registered in their precinct. The Pike County Board of Registrars is located in the basement of the Courthouse. The office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
