The Third Annual Fourth of July Parade is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Meeksville and everyone who loves America is invited.
The parade is sponsored by the Meeksville Volunteer Fire Department.
In the long tradition of down-home parades, the Meeksville Fourth of July will continue to follow the lead of the China Grove Fourth of July Parade.
“If you can drive it, push it, pull it, roll it or carry it along, then bring it and join the Meeksville Fourth of July Parade,” said Ernest Green, a member of the parade committee. “We’ll got all kinds of entries and the parade will be a lot of fun.
“This year, we are honoring our veterans as our Grand Marshals and they are especially invited to be in the parade or to come and enjoy it with the rest of us.”
Parade lineup will be from 9 until 9:30 a.m. at the old fire station in Meeksville.
“We’ll follow the same route from the fire station down Highway 7714 to the Meeksville Harmony Park,” Green said. “When we get to the park, we’ll have a short program to honor our veterans for their service. At the park we’ll also have entertainment by the Benton Brothers and a couple of other groups. There will games for the kids, maybe ponies to ride and, of course, we’ll have good fellowship and good food.”
The Meeksville Volunteer Fire Department will have chicken and rib plates for $7 and slabs of ribs for $20. All proceeds will benefit the volunteer fire department.
“We’ll have a great parade that’s fun to be in or fun to watch. So we hope everyone will come out and celebrate the Fourth of July at Meeksville,” Green said.
Meeksville is about four miles north of Troy. Turn on Highway 7714 or 7723 and follow the crowd.
