Danielle Brown hit a first inning grand slam that set the tone for Troy’s District Tournament opener against Eufaula.

Brown’s homer opened the flood gates for the Troy Belles, and they would go on to rout Eufaula, the host team of the tournament, 21-4 Friday night.

Troy opened the game swinging a hot bat in the first inning, with Brown going yard and Molly Kate Sanders scorching a triple.

The runs kept piling up, and Troy head coach Larry Sanders likes what he is seeing.

“The girls are just seeing the ball so well right now,” Sanders said. “I don’t really know what it is, but we need to keep it going. We need to stay focussed and keep working every pitch.”

To keep his team focused on getting the most out of every pitch, Sanders required the players to bat on the opposite side of the plate from normal after the big first inning.

“I wanted them to do things that don’t normally do,” Sanders said. “I wanted to seem them bunt, and a couple girls even got a hit or two from the left side.”

Hannah Calhoun, Sidney Garrett and Rose Snyder each tossed two innings in the circle for Troy.

The Belles open second round action at 9 a.m. Saturday against Taylor-Rehobeth.
