Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center is turning 45 years old and the community is invited to its celebration.
The 45th anniversary celebration will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday in the facility’s main dining room.
“We have a special celebration planned and hopes are that the community will join us as we celebrate 45 years of service to the Troy and Pike County areas,” said Ovida Walden, TH&R comptroller.
Hugo Marx, TH&R owner, will address the gathering along with Alabama columnist Steve Flowers, who will give a brief history of the facility. Refreshments will be served.
The Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center opened as Pike Manor Nursing Home on May 25, 1969, the same day as Edge Hospital opened on the south side of Troy.
“Pike Manor Nursing Home opened as a 50-bed facility,” Walden said. “In 2003, the name was changed to Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center and we now have 234 beds.”
Walden said TH&R has expanded its services over the years to meet the changing needs of the community.
“TH&R has an Alzheimer’s unit where special care is provided for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia,” she said. “TH&R offers all three therapies – physical, occupational and speech under one roof. The Center also has an on-site beauty shop for ladies and men.”
Walden said TH&R offers a variety of activities for its residents and local churches and organizations often provide additional activities or entertainment for the enjoyment of the residents.
On a daily basis, there are activities and entertainment opportunities for the residents.
“We invite the community to our special events and that makes them even more enjoyable for our residents,” Walden said.
The special events include the Ms. TH&R Pageant, the crowing of the Center’s Valentine King and Queen, the Fall Festival and the Christmas events.
“We celebrate Christmas the entire month with parties and a visit from Santa,” Walden said. “And, of course, the Easter bunny pays us a visit.”
All of the events at TH&R are special but none more so than its anniversaries which celebrate the facilities continued service to its residents and to the community, Walden said. “We invite everyone to come out Monday and celebrate our 45th anniversary with us.”
