Following a difficult 9-34 record in his first season at the helm, Trent Givens has been relieved of his coaching duties for the Charles Henderson softball team.

Givens took the job last summer following the resignation of then head coach Robin Snyder.

Charles Henderson played the entire 2014 season with no junior or senior players, and only one sophomore.

The young squad showed promise at times, hinting at progress being made.

Givens told The Messenger Wednesday that he wishes nothing but good luck for the team in the future.

“I would like to thank Dr. Boyd English (Charles Henderson High School principal) for giving the me opportunity to coach these young ladies,” Givens said. “I wish the girls nothing but the best in the future. I whole-heartedly believe they will achieve great things on and off the field if they continue to work hard.”

Charles Henderson played up in classification over a dozen times in 2014, looking to battle against the best the state had to offer, and create what Givens called “mental toughness.”

Assistant coach Heather Mitchell will lead the team on an interim basis until the search for a new head coach is completed.

Charles Henderson principal Dr. Boyd English could not be reached for comment.
