Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University.
Maxine Hollis, an event organizer, said the 2014 pageant is the second to be held in Pike County.
“The first Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant was held in 2012 and Jane Thrash of Brundidge was our winner. She went on to participate in the Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant and was second alternate,” Hollis said. “We didn’t have a pageant for our senior women last year but, they deserve this opportunity so we are bringing back the pageant with hopes of it being an annual event.”
To be eligible for participation in the Ms. Senior Pike County Pageant, one must be age 60 and up and a resident of Pike County for at least six months prior to the pageant. “The contestants are required to perform a talent and to state their philosophy of life,” Hollis said. “An interview is conducted with each of the contestants and there is also an evening gown competition.”
The winner of the Pike County pageant will compete in the 2014 Ms. Senior Alabama
Pageant on Aug.7-9 at Wallace Community College in Hanceville.
Applications for the pageant are available at the Colley Senior Complex in Troy. The deadline for entry is May 20.
