Gov. Bentley to take part in Pike Co. straw poll/rally

Governor Robert Bentley will join members of the Pike County Republican Party at a straw poll and political rally Monday evening.
All contested statewide Republican primary races will be included in the straw poll at the “Protect Pike County Values” rally at Cattlemen’s Park, located on U. S. Highway 231 South. Before the 6 p.m. event, Bentley will attend a reception with those who purchase a VIP ticket.
“This event is casual and affordable and blue jeans and cowboy boots are quite appropriate,” said Ginny Hamm, chairman of Pike County Republican Women. “There will be special music by the Benton Brothers and Lenny Trawick, good food and a relaxed atmosphere for this family-friendly event.”
Bert Fridlin, treasurer, publicity chair and one of the organizers, said Bentley would later speak at the rally. Each Republican candidate was invited to the event. Fridlin said that was one reason the event should not be missed.
“That’s the main thing,” he said. “To meet the candidates, cast a vote in the straw poll and to hear Governor Bentley.”
Attorney General Luther Strange will also address the crowd.
“We want all Pike County voters to come meet and hear Gov. Bentley and have the opportunity to speak personally with as many candidates as possible and then vote their straw poll ballot,” said party chairman Jeffrey Knight.
The rally is a fundraiser for the local party. Fridlin said proceeds would most likely be used for campaigning before the November election.
The $10 general tickets will include a hamburger, fries and a soft drink. The $100 tickets will include the meal, meet-and-greet and membership to the Pike County Republican Party.
Tickets are available at PC Plus in Troy, Jackson Hardware in Brundidge or by calling Jacob Fannin, at 334-268-0296. Tickets will also be available at the door on May 19th. For more information, contact Bert Fridlin at 782-3500.
