Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center advisory board members met Wednesday to discuss plans for the summer events at the Center.
Ovida Walden, acting chair, said a big event on the calendar of summer events is TH&R’s 45th anniversary celebration on June 26.
“We are planning a big birthday celebration and hope to host Business After Hours here at the facility,” Walden said.
Next week, May 11-17 is National Nursing Home Week, and TH&R will celebrate along with other nursing home across the nation.
“We will have special activities to show appreciation to our employees who are so dedicated to our residents and to Troy Health and Rehab,” Walden said.
The theme for National Nursing Home Week is “Living the Aloha Spirit.”
To Hawaiians, the word “aloha” has a deeper significance than just a fond farewell. By “Living the Aloha Spirit,” the employees at nursing home facilities interact with the residents with love, respect and a joyfully shared life.
Jeanette Dawkins, TH&R activities director, said the aloha spirit includes unity, kindness, truthfulness, humility and patience.
Dawkins expressed thanks to the members of the advisory board for their “aloha spirit” with chocolate bar-tokens of love and appreciation as contributing members of the board and in celebration of Mother’s Day on Sunday.
“The chocolate bars contain 100 percent of the daily recommended serving of love, 27 grams; patience, 22 grams; memories, 25 grams; laughs, 35 grams, respect 18 grams, commitment, 32 grams; friends, 15 grams; and fun, 27 grams,” Dawkins said. “Your daily values may be higher or lower depending on your needs.”
Roxie Kitchens, board member, said the word “mother” is often broader than just the birth mother. Mother figures can be grandmothers, aunts, sisters, cousins and friends. “And all ‘mothers’ should be celebrated on their special day.”
Bennie Jinright, board member, expressed appreciation to the members of the board who are all special friends.
“We share a special friendship here and that closeness is what Mother’s Day is about too,” she said. “Celebrating each other.”
