Lady Patriots in search of complete game in weekend tourney

Pike Liberal Arts head softball coach Allie Park has seen her team hit well and has seen her team play solid defense. She just wants to see both on the same day more often.

Fresh off hosting a tournament of their own this past weekend, the Lady Patriots will load up the van and head to Tuscaloosa this weekend for another weekend full of softball.

Park thinks the weekend set is a perfect opportunity to put all the pieces together.

“Last weekend, no one played overly great,” said Park. “Everyone just seemed to play a little flat, and the girls know that. We worked one day this week on nothing but fielding, and the next on nothing but hitting. We need to put them together this weekend, and play as a team. If we do that, I like what this weekend holds.”

Pike will play two games on Friday and Saturday, before possibly advancing to the title game Saturday evening. The Lady Pats will face Southern Academy, Patrician Academy, Bessemer Academy and the host team Tuscaloosa Academy in the round-robin format.

Park said some of the players are searching for more confidence as the season nears the home stretch.

“We have a couple of girls going through some slumps, and they have to work through it,” said Park. “It is in their head that they can’t hit, but things come and go. They just need to remember that.”
