Brundidge librarian Jean Carroll was honored Tuesday on her “29th” birthday in appreciation of her long and continuing service to the community.
Brundidge Mayor Jimmy Ramage expressed his appreciation to Carroll for her dedication to the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library, its patrons and the Brundidge community.
Carroll retired as librarian at Pike County High School in 1991 and “almost immediately” found her way back to the library.
“I enjoy reading and I love books,” Carroll said. “And, I enjoy being around people who love books as much as I do. There’s no place I would rather be than in the library.”
Carroll has been a part of the growth of the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library. Her birthday party was held in the original wing of the library that is named in memory and honor of Tupper Lightfoot, whose home was a private lending library long before it was the city library.
The original wing of the public library has been renovated and the library staff and city employees are in the process of moving in the furnishings and materials.
“We are excited to be moving into the part of the library that will house the children’s library and the reference, non-fiction and genealogy sections,” Carroll said. “Our fiction section and our computer stations are in the new section of the library along with a conference room, a meeting room and a section for creative activities.”
Carroll said the new wing of the library was needed to accommodate the increasing traffic.
“There is not a day that goes by that we don’t issue new library cards,” she said. “The Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library provides a much needed service to our community, a service that enhances the lives of people of all ages and with so many different interests.”
