University band to perform at new hall

The Troy University Concert Bands under the direction of Raymond H. Smith and Dr. Larry Blocher will present a special performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the new John M. Long Music Hall on the campus of Troy University.

“The item that will make this a special event is not the great music or the wonderful musicians who will perform, it’s the location,” Smith said. “The new John M. Long Music Hall band room was designed for the ‘Sound of the South’ marching band to rehearse, so there is ample room to facilitate the concert band and still have seating for an audience.”

“With the completion of the new John M. Long Hall, Troy University is positioned to take another important leap forward,” Smith said.

In addition to the new band room, Long Hall includes a beautiful new choral facility, a state of the art dance studio, student practice rooms, and administrative offices.

Thursday’s program will include a variety of music and will last about an hour.

“The concert is free to the public but seating will be limited, so come early,” Smith said. “Plan to arrive in time to look around the building. You will be glad you did.”
