Brundidge Rotarians receive Bell Ringer award

The Pike County Salvation Army Service Center recognized the Brundidge Rotary Club with the Bell Ringer Award at the Club’s Tuesday meeting.

Kim May, Service Center director, said the Brundidge Rotarians have been dedicated bell ringers for the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle fund-raiser for several years.

“We can always depend on the Rotarians to ring the bell for the Salvation Army,” May said. “We don’t have to worry about ringers not showing up in Brundidge. We know the Rotarians won’t let us down.”

May said the 2013 Red Kettle was a great success in raising more than $41,000.

“People again were very generous,” she said. “I think that more people are realizing that the money they give to the Red Kettle campaign and the donations to our Thrift Store benefit people right here at home. The Salvation Army serves people in Pike County, our friends and neighbors in need.”

May said the needs have been especially great in recent months.

“Because of the extremely cold weather, we have had so many requests for assistance with utility bills,” she said. “Those who heat with propane gas have been hit very hard. We’ve done what we could. We even got motel rooms for a couple of nights for people who had no heat.”

May said a lot of money has gone out as the Pike County Salvation Army Service Center has assisted those in need.

“So we would greatly appreciate monetary donations to the Center and donations of furniture and other household items. And, we always need clothing and odds and ends.

Every donation to the Pike County Salvation Army benefits someone in need in Pike County.

“Anytime you give to the Salvation Army, you’re helping people at home,” May said. “We have a lot of people in need and for various reasons. To receive assistance from the Salvation Army, a person has to qualify. So, those who give can be assured that their dollars, their donations, are going to help someone who truly needs help.”

The Pike County Salvation Army is located at 509 South Brundidge Street in Troy.
