Hundreds support annual Heart Walk
Tuesday evening was good for Dianne LeVeque’s heart in more than one way.
The heart survivor got her blood pumping at the annual Heart Walk, which raises funds for research in heart disease.
It was an inspiring event for LeVeque.
“Just see the people come out and show their spirit and love and care for anybody who’s had heart problems, you feel like you’re just a big part of it,” she said.
Hundreds were a part of the event, which included informational booths, entertainment and drawings for prizes.
Elizabeth Mitchell, chair of the Heart Walk planning committee, said the event was a great success.
“We have a huge turnout,” she said. “Our local merchants have been so kind to donate prizes for our walkers and we have a wonderful board that has helped us out so much.”
Chip Wallace’s neighborhood, Heritage Ridge, assembled a team and raised money for the event.
“Fifteen are here, but we got $1,295 in donations,” he said.
Because several Heritage Ridge residents have heart disease, getting people involved has never been an issue for them.
Wallace said he always enjoys it.
“I like all the participation for the county,” he said. “And the good work that it does to make everybody heart-aware.”
