Charles Henderson rounds out 2014 football schedule

New Charles Henderson High School football coach Jamey Dubose announced the 2014 Trojan football schedule on Tuesday.

The schedule features four non-region games against Daleville, Dale County, Davidson (Mobile) and Northview (Dothan), and six region games against Eufaula, Greenville, Sidney Lanier, Booker T. Washington, Alabama Christian and Rehobeth.

Dubose feels the schedule will allow for Charles Henderson to have better visiting crowds, and in return make more money in ticket sales.

“You want the crowd to be able to get to the game,” Dubose said. “You want the students able to get there as well, because being there to support your team and friends is a big thing for a high school student. I think it will help out gate as well. I know for just being here for a short time, the attraction of coming and playing in the stadium is big. Hopefully we will have good crowds and great ball games this year.”

The non-region games all present strong competition for the Trojans.

Dale County went 11-1 in 2013, and returns one of the state’s most dynamic players in running back Jamerius Henderson. The Alabama Sports Writers Association named Henderson 3A Back of the Year after running for more than 2,200 yards.

Daleville stumbled to a 5-5 record in 2013, but has made the AHSAA playoffs in six of the last eight seasons.

Davidson High School is part of the new 7A classification, and has been a playoff team in 11 of the last 13 years.

Northview went 2-8 last season, is 0-4 all time against the Trojans.

Dubose likes the idea of challenging his team against the best teams from lower classifications along with the bigger schools.

“You have to challenge your team,” said Dubose. “Everywhere I have been, Prattville and Florence, I have always liked to add challenges in the schedule. The first 10 weeks is not your season. You have to be ready for the last five. I think the schedule will present a good challenge for us, and have us ready for the playoffs when we get there.”

The Pike County Classic will remain a pre-season scrimmage and be played on August 22 at Bulldog Stadium in Brundidge.
