Extension granted for renewals

Thanks to the winter weather, Pike County residents who need to renew car tags or purchase municipal business licenses will have an extension.
“Since we basically lost three business days to this month, we’re going to extend the deadline to renew business licenses,” said Alton Starling, Troy City Clerk.
Normally, business licenses must be renewed by Jan. 31. “We’re moving that deadline to Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m.,” Starling said. “If you pay by that date, either in person or if your payment is postmarked by that period, there will be no late fees or penalties.”
Fees and penalties, usually a percentage of the cost of the license, are typically assessed after the Jan. 31 deadline. However, Troy city offices were closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday due to the winter storm.
In Brundidge, where city offices reopened Thursday, City Manager Britt Thomas said the business license deadline also would be extended by two days. “We’ve extended it to Tuesday, Feb. 4.”
An extension has also been granted to Pike County residents whose car tags are due for renewal in January.
“The order was issued by the state revenue commissioner,” said Pike County Probate Judge Wes Allen. “Pike County residents, and those in other counties affected by the winter storm, will have until Feb. 10 to renew their January car tags” without incurring late fees and penalties.
“Residents also can renew their car tags online at www.pikeprobate.com,” Allen said.
The extension includes both in-person and online renewals.
