Severe winter weather plays havoc with local hoops schedules

Most Tuesday nights in the winter, a sports fan can take a pick of any gymnasium in the state and more than likely take in a basketball game.

However Mother Nature has reared her ugly side, and forced the cancellation of all the local basketball action.

Goshen’s scheduled game against Providence Christian has been moved to Monday, Feb. 3. Pike County’s final area game against the Abbeville Yellow Jackets, originally set for Tuesday night in Brundidge, was moved to Thursday at 4:30.

The Bulldogs were originally slated to meet Samson on Thursday, but are required to have area play completed by January 30. Area tournament brackets must be on file with the Alabama High School Athletic Association by the end of business on Jan. 30.

Troy Parks and Recreation Director Dan Smith also announced the youth games scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, are cancelled.

The games set for Thursday and Friday night are still scheduled to take place.

Smith also said he and the TPRD staff will keep a close eye on the weather conditions over the next few days, and will make decisions about the regular operation of the Recreation Center and the Thursday and Friday games as the situation develops.
