Kyra Scott goes up for a layup in the Lady Trojans’ win over Ashford.

Charles Henderson knocks off Ashford, 50-29

It wasn’t the prettiest win Dyneshia Jones has seen since taking over the Charles Henderson basketball program years ago, but she will gladly put a W in the win column.

Charles Henderson used a big first quarter and timely second-half buckets to keep Ashford in its rear-view mirror for the entire game, winning in blowout fashion 50-29.

“It was a beautiful game, but it is a win,” said Jones. “A win is great, no matter how you play. We have some things to work on, but we did what we needed to.”

The Lady Trojans started the game on a 13-0 run, including a big three from the corner from Kyra Scott.

Charles Henderson opened the second quarter on yet another big run to put distance between themselves and the Lady Jackets.

Midway through the stanza, Charles Henderson held a 22-2 lead, and went to the locker room up 25-9.

Ashford came out of the break with a new scheme, and dug itself somewhat out of the whole, but never challenged the Trojans down the stretch.

Jones said her team has trouble adjusting to the changes Ashford made.

“They switched up from man to zone, and the girls were not communicating the way they should have been,” said Jones. “On defense, we just have to remember our positioning, and not reach in and fall in to their traps.”

Alexis Jones led the Lady Trojans with 17 points, and Scott added 11 more.
