The Goshen Eagles picked up a big area win over the Zion Chapel Rebels Friday night.

Goshen jumped ahead early, and pulled way late to down Zion 65-46.

The Eagles were never threatened in the contest, and Goshen head coach Johnny Mitchell liked what he saw from his team.

“Anytime you get a win, it is good night,” Mitchell said. “But especially an area is even better. We needed this one tonight. We have been snake bit a lot this year with injuries and losing close games. So it was great to get a win, and we need to keep it going.”

Goshen led 35-19 at the half, but quickly went to work in the third quarter to build a more comfortable lead.

Denzil Green battled hard on back-to-back possessions for layups, and Deangelo Orum continued his late-season surge by dropping in eight points in the quarter, including a pair of threes on consecutive possessions.

“We are still growing every day at practice and games,” Mitchell said. “This team gets better every time they touch the floor. As a coach, all you can ask for are 100 percent effort and improvement.”

Not to be outdone by his senior teammate Orum, young eighth grade Zach Alford drained threes on back-to-back Goshen possessions late in the fourth quarter.

Mitchell liked the confidence his players played with in the win.

“You can’t play this game uptight and worried about a mistake,” Mitchell said. “They played relaxed, and with confidence. We get a couple of more wins, and the confidence will continue to build for this team.”
