Board Member James Kimbrough said that the culminating event of the 2014 Relay for Life campaign is scheduled for May 2, at the Troy Sportsplex.

The theme for this year’s Pike County Relay for Life campaign is “Twenty Years of Miracles and Memories.”

“The Pike County Relay for Life campaign is celebrating 20 years of service this year,” Kimbrough said. “The goal is to raise $110,000 through sponsorship teams. Those teams include businesses, schools, churches and community organizations.”

Kimbrough said that four team meetings have been scheduled, Jan. 16, Feb. 13, March 13 and April 17. Each meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Momma Goldberg’s Deli on the Square in downtown Troy.

“We encourage all of those who would like to organize a team to call Joy Brigham at 334-790-0372,” Kimbrough said. “The money raised last year by the Pike County Relay for Life campaign was used to support cancer research and to provide information for 57 cancer patients, free lodging at the Hope Lodge in Birmingham for five patients, transportation for treatments for four patients, wigs for three patients and financial assistance for four patients.”

Kimbrough said the work being done by the American Cancer Society is saving the lives of many and improving the quality of life for many others.

The Pike County Cancer Society Board encourages everyone to get involved and support the efforts of the American Cancer Society to win the fight against cancer.
