Former Charles Henderson head football coach confirmed to The Messenger late Friday night that he has been offered the head coaching position at Mary G. Montgomery High School in Mobile.

“After what we just went through, I feel like I owe it to my wife and kids to get them home,” Deans said in the text. “We have family and friends on both sides of the bay, and it is their comfort zone. I am not worried about me anymore. I just want them happy. I should know by Monday.”

Dean led Charles Henderson to 23-5 record in two seasons at the helm, including a 14-1 record and state championship game appearance in 2013. MGM would be Dean’s fifth stop as a head coach since 2008. Dean spent one year at Daleville, before serving as head coach at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School for two seasons. Dean left McGill in 2011 for Valley, before coming to Charles Henderson in early 2012.

Dean has been successful at every stop in his career, racking up a 55-20 career record and never recording a losing season as head coach.

If hired, Dean, a native of Fairhope on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, would replace Mary G. Montgomery interim head coach Al Jones. The Mobile County Board of Education’s next scheduled meeting is set for January 27. Deans teaching position would have to be approved by the board before the situation is final.
