Marquese Christian and Deangelo Orum both got hot in the third quarter, scoring nine and eight points respectively in the frame.

With a 50-34 lead heading in to the fourth quarter, the Goshen rout was on.

After the game, head coach Johnny Mitchell said his team is finding its groove offensively. “We shot the ball well tonight,” Mitchell said. “Playing at home, half a month in to the season, we’re starting to get comfortable shooting on our nets. We were unselfish and made the extra pass.”

The Goshen girls could not replicate the boys’ success. The Lady Eagles fell to Opp 35-31. Hannah Styron led the way for the Lady Eagles with eight points. Shamiya Griffen added 7.

Despite the loss, Mitchell noted the improvement in his team, “We went down to Opp a month ago with a very inexperienced team and got beat 28-2,” Mitchell said. “To play them again and have a chance to win at the end speaks volumes about the team’s improvement.”

Mitchell praised both his teams saying success is not far away for the Goshen program. “We have great kids on both teams,” Mitchell said. “They are high-character, hard-working kids. When you have kids like that, success is inevitable.”
