While high school football season ended just three weeks ago, and college and NFL team are gearing up for the post-season, the employees of the Troy Parks and Recreation Department have their eyes set dead on 2014.

Over the month of January, the staff at TPRD will not only begin basketball season for youth and adults, but also take part in one of the year’s busiest activities: baseball and softball registration.

Registration for youth baseball and softball will be available online beginning Jan. 6, 2014, and will run through Jan. 18. There will be a late fee after Jan. 18, and registration will conclude on Jan. 25.

Director of Troy Parks and Recreation Dan Smith said signing up during this period is vital.

“Registering during January is critical for all of those that want to play in April,” Smith said. “We can not guarantee a spot on a team to someone that doesn’t sign up during this period. We want all of those interested to take part, but they need to sign up as early as possible during the registration time.”

The 2014 TPRD basketball season will also get underway during the month of January.

The youth season gets underway January 7, and will feature games in five different divisions.

Smith said the season should be very competitive.

“A lot of our players play basketball to keep in shape and stay moving during the winter,” Smith said. “It is great way to stay active, and we look forward to a strong season.”

Smith also said the new year will be even better than 2013.

“Here we are the week after Christmas, and we are already shifting gears for spring sports,” Smith said. “We are excited for the New Year, and look to build on past success to keep adding to the betterment of Troy sports.”
