The Pike County High School Fine Arts Department will present “Christmas in Dixie” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the PCHS Fine Arts Building.

“We invite everyone to join us for a warm evening of traditional Christmas classics featuring some of the greatest music and dramatic recitations of the season,” said Wayne Duckworth, PCHS choral director. “We are bringing together band, choral music, theater and art the for ‘Christmas in Dixie’ concert. The art classes created the set for the performances and the theater students are doing several dramatic readings.”

“The first part of the program will be the more contemporary songs of the season, including ‘Winter Wonderland,’ ‘Let It Snow’ and ‘Jingle Bells,’” Duckworth said. “The second part of the program will be sacred, seasonal music.”

Duckworth said the musical program will include both vocal and instrumental solos. The soloists were selected through an audition process.

This year is the first in several for a choral program at PCHS.

“We are all excited about ‘Christmas in Dixie’ and look forward to presenting it to the community,” Duckworth said. “Students are involved in all areas of the performance. They will emcee the program, narrate it and, of course, perform.”

Everyone is invited to an Open House tour of the PCHS new Fine Arts Building prior to the opening performance Friday. The tour will begin at 6 p.m.

Tickets for “Christmas in Dixie” at PCHS Friday and Saturday nights are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Advance tickets may be purchased at the school office.
