Marilyn Rogers had a dream.

The dream was as real is if she were actually walking through the Troy Walmart store where she is employed and saw a family who was there in need, not in want.

“It was last Tuesday that I had this dream about a family that was really in need,” Rogers said. “It came to me that there are a lot of families that don’t have what they need and that we should do something to help.”

Rogers’idea was to have a toy drop at the Troy Walmart store and invite people to drop off a new toy or non-perishable food items to be delivered to several families that are finding times especially difficult this Christmas season.

“I talked with my shift manager about my dream and my idea and our store manager liked the idea, too,” Rogers said. “Jane Thrash, the Red Cross director for our area, agreed to team up with Walmart for a toy drop from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Dec. 7 here at Walmart in Troy.”

Rogers said a tent will be set up outside Walmart as the toy dropoff location.

“The toys don’t have to be expensive to make Christmas bright for a child that might have little else,” she said. “We hope to make Christmas much brighter for several families. Several Walmart employees will go with Mrs. Thrash to make the deliveries of the canned goods and toys.”

Rogers said anyone who knows a family that is experiencing life’s difficulties this Christmas season is asked to call (334) 566-8012 or the local Red Cross office at 536-0632 so that family might benefit from the toy drop.

Donations will be used to help local families.
