The seniors on Charles Henderson’s 2013 team have left a lasting legacy for players to follow.
The Trojan seniors have collected 28 wins as a group, the most ever for a group in a three-year period.
The previous high was 27 done by the Classes of 2004, 2003 and 1981.
“We have put in a lot of work since we first came in here as sophomores,” offensive lineman Hunter Kennedy said. “A lot of us got playing time then, and kept pushing hard every day.”
Kennedy said the intensity level ramped up even higher upon Mike Dean’s arrival in early 2012.
“He came in and implemented speed camps, morning workouts and so much more,” Kennedy said. “It made us want it more and it shows on the field every Friday night. We put in the work, and the wins have taken care themselves.”
Dean has guided the group to 22 of its 28 wins, and says he has a lot of respect for each and every one of the seniors on the team.
“They could have easily gone through the motions and let things go back to being a 7-3 football team, but they didn’t,” Dean said. “They all came together to lead this team. Not all of the seniors are starters, but all of them have a role on this team, and they do it day in and day out.”
Trojan receiver John Johnson said the Trojans aren’t counting their wins just yet.
“It’s great we have than many wins, but the job isn’t over with,” Johnson said. “We want two more wins on that total, because that means they blue maps is ours as well.
Charles Henderson plays host to UMS-Wright Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
