The Troy Trojan volleyball team will welcome in the best teams of the Sun Belt Conference Thursday for the Sun Belt Championships.

The Trojans squeaked in to the eight-team field with a win on the last weekend of play at Georgia State, and the team is excited to be a part of the event.

“We didn’t want to host the tournament and not be in it,” said Troy volleyball head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. “The team played well this past weekend, and we were able to get in. We want to keep that momentum rolling this week.”

The tournament rotates around the conference each season, and Kirkpatrick is thrilled to showcase the state-of-the-art Trojan Arena to the entire conference.

“Most of the teams have been here already, but we can’t wait to have them here all at one time,” said Kirkpatrick. “It is a great way to show off not just the arena, but the entire university as a whole. The banquet kicks everything off on Wednesday night, and then we get going on Thursday. There will be a lot of people here that have never been inside the place. We get to show our entire conference what Troy is all about, from the arena and campus, to the hotels, the restaurants and the community as a whole.”

Troy (12-20, 7-11) will be the No. 8 seed in the tournament while WKU (27-5, 17-1), the Sun Belt regular season champion, will be the No. 1 seed. The Trojans and Lady Toppers will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

For tickets to the three-day tournament, call the Troy ticket office directly at (334) 670-3680.

Full tournament passes for adults are $20 while single-day passes are $10. For children age 12 and under, tournament passes are $10 and single-day passes are $5.
