John Johnson’s big night against the Dora Bulldogs in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs drew recognition from across the state of Alabama.

Johnson was named Player of the Week by the Alabama Sports Writers Association after racking up 369 yards of offense and scoring five touchdowns.

Johnson scored on runs of 35, 75, 15, 63 and 35 yards. He also found Isom Coley on a 51-yard pass to end the first half. Coley was tackled just shy of the goal line.

After the game, Johnson was quick to shun credit, and give love to his teammates.

“I just hit the hole as hard as I can and fight for every possible yard. The big guys up front do a great job, and without them none of us skill guys would have been able to make the plays we have made.”

Friday’s performance was the second time this season in which Johnson scored five touchdowns, and also marked the fifth-straight game the Trojans scored at least 50 points.

The performance also drew praise from Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean.

“John is an incredible football player, but he is an even better person,” Dean said. “The world needs more young men like John Johnson. He is smart, and that carries over to his football skills. He is just a super star both on and off the field.”

Johnson has accounted for 195 of the Trojans 509 points during the 2013 football season.

Johnson and the Trojans travel to Childersburg in the second round of the AHSAA playoffs.
