Offense: John Johnson, Charles Henderson

John Johnson did what John Johnson does in Charles Henderson’s 67-7 route of Dora in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs Friday night. He scored touchdowns.

Johnson picked up five touchdowns on the night, all coming on rushes, to go along with his 300 rushing yards, 51 passing yards and 18 receiving yards. In total, Johnson rolled up 369 yards of offense, and scored on runs of 35, 75, 15, 63 and 35 yards.

He also found Isom Coley on a 51-yard pass to end the first half. Coley was tackled just shy of the goal line.

On the season, Johnson has accounted for 28 touchdowns and is averaging over two scores a ball game.

Johnson and the Trojans will hit the road in the second round to battle the Childersburg Tigers.

Defense: Isaac Nickson, Pike County

After last Friday’s playoff game, Trinity Presbyterian quarterback Ben Jones will be having nightmares about Pike County’s standout defensive lineman Isaac Nickson.

Jones spent the majority of the game scrambling out of the way of the Bulldog big man.

Nickson had six total tackles on the night, two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass break up.

Nickson and the rest of the Bulldog front seven held the Wildcats to eight total rushing yards in Pike County’s 21-14 upset win.

The Bulldog defense held the Wildcats well below their season scoring average of 28 points-per-game.

Pike County advances to play Bayside Academy this Friday in Brundidge. The Bulldogs will need another big performance from the defense this week against the Admirals.
