Charles Henderson ends season with old rival

While the playoffs No, 1-seed is locked up, and another region title is secure, the Charles Henderson Trojans still have a little business to tend to before diving headlong in to the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs.

The Trojans will meet an old rival, the Eufaula Tigers, Friday night on the road.

The 5A Tigers are a step up in classification, and talent, from what Charles Henderson has seen the last several weeks.

Charles Henderson head coach Mike Dean, always looking for an advantage, has put an added emphasis on “big plays” and taking advantage of situations this week.

“We are not going to change what we do, or how we prepare,” Dean said. “You do the little things right, and the big things take care of themselves. Big time players like to play in big time games. Our kids are ready to go.”

Eufaula is 6-3 overall, and 5-2 in 5A Region 2. The Tigers have lost to Valley, Benjamin Russell and 6A Enterprise during the 2013 season.

Dean sees the week 10 matchup with Eufaula as a chance to fine tune some areas of concern against a quality opponent.

“They kids should be excited, and we (coaches) are taking our excitement level and intensity up a little,” Dean said. “This is week 10, we are playing our arch rival and we are gearing up for the playoffs. No offense to any of the teams we have played, but you want to play big time teams. Eufaula and Dora are big time.”

Charles Henderson and Eufaula are set for a 7 P.m. kickoff Friday night at Senior Field in Eufaula.
