Goshen plays host to region foe Elba, familiar faces

For over 20 seasons as an assistant or head coach at Goshen, Bart Snyder has stared across the field at some of the best coaches in the state.
How does he know they are great? Because quite a few of them were on his staff at one time.
Snyder will once again try to out-coach and out-play not one, but two, of his former assistants Friday night.
The Eagles welcome in the Elba Tigers, and with them, head coach Ed Rigby and assistant Will Pouncey.
Both Pouncey and Rigby called Goshen home at one point, and Snyder is ready for the challenge of going against his former colleagues.
“We know them well,” Snyder said. “Will Pouncey is a great guy, and we even thought he might join us at one point. Coach Rigby is a fantastic football coach, and will have his guys ready to go. I have to be on my game Friday to make sure our kids are ready as well.”
Elba is 3-2 overall, 3-0 in region play. Goshen sits at 2-3, and 2-1 in region.
The winner of Friday night’s tangle in the Eagles Nest will have the inside track to the second-place spot in the region, and with it a home playoff game in the first round.
“It is a huge ball game for us,” Snyder said. “Our kids like playing at home, and a win gets us that much closer to hosting in week one. We have to take care of business for a full four quarters to beat a really good football team from Elba.”
Goshen has never beaten Elba in three tries. Last year, the Tigers knocked off Goshen 43-7 in Elba.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
