Every Wednesday, The Messenger will feature a Q-and-A with a local high school football coach to discuss the season, upcoming opponents and game planing.
After struggling the first two weeks, how good was last week’s win?
JM: We played two of the best teams we will see all season, in the first two games. We played a lot better last week, and we have some confidence about us now.
Why do you wear flip flops at practice?
JM: I have flat feet. My back used to hurt all the time during the first few weeks of the season. So, about 10 years ago I started wearing the flip flops and socks, because I don’t like my feet to get dirty. I don’t think of it as being stylish, I’m just trying to be comfortable.
You were planning on taking a step back from football this season. What happened?
JM: We lost two really good football coaches in the offseason, and I decided to step in and help out what I could. This will be my twentieth year coaching, and I have been blessed every step of the way.
What do the Eagles need to do to return to the playoffs for a fifth straight season?
JM: We have to be consistent in everything we do. That means Monday through Friday, we have to build on each day. We have to have intensity everyday, and I truly feel like this bunch of kids is up to the challenge of doing that.
