Zion Chapel head coach Bradley Bowers summed up Friday night’s season opener against G.W. Long in one sentence.

“We took it on the chin pretty hard tonight.”

Zion Chapel fell to the No. 7 ranked team in 2A 55-0 in Skipperville.

Bowers, who made is head coaching debut in the contest, said the only thing the Rebels can do is to get back to work Monday.

“We just have to get back going Monday,” Bowers said. “We all have to work together, players and coaches, to get the job done. We will get back at it and try to fix the issues.”

The loss marks the second time in as many weeks that Zion has failed to get in to the end zone. Last week, the Rebels fell to Wicksburg 28-0 in a pre-season scrimmage.

The offensive woes will be one of the main issues that Bowers and staff hope to correct before the region opener at Elba on Friday.

“We have to get the ball in the endzone,” Bowers said. “We are nowhere near where we want to be. We have to work on each and every thing in practice, and come game time we have to win each and every play.”
