A handful of celebrities favored by children will be in town this weekend.

SpongeBob SquarePants, Rapunzel, Princess Tiana, Superman, Spiderman, Dora the Explorer, Minnie Mouse, Hello Kitty and Elmo will be set to greet children at the Troy Parks and Recreation Department from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The event, Kids and Characters, is the main fund-raiser for the Pike Regional Children’s Advocacy Center and this is the second year of the event.

“This is our big event and we hope to double the number in attendance this year,” said Camille Downing, director of the CAC. “The money will help us care for children who have been victims of violence and also help families who need to get back on their feet after instances of violence.”

Characters can only be in costume for two hours, so it is important for parents to bring children before 1 p.m. Families may bring their own cameras, but a professional photographer will also be on hand to snap photos of children with their favorite characters and print out the pictures for a small charge that will benefit the CAC.

The fun won’t end at 1 p.m. though. Families will be able to stay until 3 p.m. to enjoy a DJ who will play kid-friendly music, a photo booth, and carnival games such as fishing, bowling and a ball toss. There will also be a bounce house and snow cones for sale with proceeds going to the CAC.
