Mr. James Thomas Smith of Troy passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Ft. Walton Beach, FL. He was 63. Funeral services for James Thomas Smith will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with Rev. Orlando Buck officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy, Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. He was born April 26, 1950 in Columbus, MS. to John Thomas Smith and Madie Shaw Smith, the oldest of 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls.
He passed his time by doing something with his hands, working on cars, building something and painting his favorite pictures. He was always pulling pranks and jokes on everyone. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and brother; He is survived by wife and best friend: Trudy Smith, Troy; sons: Michael Smith, Hamilton, AL; Greg (Amanda) Smith, Vernon, AL; Robert (Desirae) Smith, Quitman, MS; Ken (Gina) Tillery, Ozark, AL; and Tim (Wanda) Tillery, Troy; daughter: Lynn (Dan) Maddocks, Troy; 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; mother and stepfather: Madie (Ray) Hardin, Sulligent, AL; brother: John (Sandra) Smith, Vernon, AL; sisters; Janice Gallant, Mabbline Nichols, Hamilton, AL; and Wanda Bradford, Sulligent, AL; sister-in-law: Shirley Barron, Troy; and a host of nieces, nephews, many friends, a special friend Charlie Terry and his baby “Doc”. James will be missed by his family, many friends and his sidekick Doc. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Greg Smith, Robert Smith, Bryan Oaks, Ken Tillery and Dan Maddocks. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class at Springhill Church.
