Cherokee American, Opelika fend off elimination with win

Opelika 5, Taylorville 3 – Opelika scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back on its way to knocking off Taylorville 5-3.
Micah Christian doubled in Cade Blackmon to get the scoring started for Opelika. Later in the inning Jaichis Holmes singled, scoring Christian. Holmes would come across on a ground ball sacrifice by Chirstopher Scullen.
Holmes’ bat would come back to life in the third with a towering three-run homer to give Opelika the lead for good.
Peyton Eldridge, Peyton Jordan and Christian Jones scored runs for Taylorville.
Cherokee American 5, Oxford 0 – Will McKinney led Cherokee American to the win with day at the plate.
McKinney officially went 1-1, but made the most of the at bat, depositing a ball deep over the left-center field wall for a three-run homer. McKinney accounted for three of Cherokee’s five runs.
Cherokee’s Noah Ledbetter allowed just three hits, and struck out nine Oxford batters.
