Nearly two months to the day from walking off the playing surface at Riverwalk Stadium a state champion, Hunter Baggett returned to mix it up with some of the best ball players in the state of Alabama.
Baggett took part in the Alabama High School Athletic Association All-Star Week baseball game on Monday, competing against the best rising seniors from across the state.
Baggett, sporting uniform No. 8, batted in the 11 hole in the first game, as well as playing shortstop for a couple of innings.
Baggett said that playing in the game was an honor that he will relish for a long time.
“For people to think enough of me to put me in this game means so much,” Baggett said. “There are a ton of great baseball players here, and to be mentioned with them is a big boost heading in to next season.”
Baggett served as Charles Henderson’s lead-off batter and everyday shortstop during the state title run in 2012.
Baggett also provided one of the more memorable moments of the season, with a clean steal of home in the first inning of game one versus Brooks.
Charles Henderson head coach Derek Irons said that playing in the game could be beneficial to Baggett in the future.
“There are so many college coaches and scouts up here, and a lot of eyes get to see what kind of player he is,” Irons said. “It is honor for our program to have him represent our team and our school on this stage.”
