Dixie Minor Rookies prep for tourney opener this weekend

Though his team might be labeled as Rookies, Chris Huner knows that they know how to win big baseball games.
The Dixie Minor Rookies enter tournament play this weekend in Enterprise, and are busy prepping for the big day.
“The main thing that we are focuses on is trying to build some team chemistry,” said Huner. “These guys were on seven different teams during the season, but they all have talent. Some are learning new spots, but we are working.”
Several members of the team captured a title at the Pre-Minor level last season, and have experience playing in big games.
“Seven of those kids on that billboard are on this team,” Huner said motioning to the Pre-Minor sign at Sauers Field. “Obviously, it is a little different now, because the kids are pitching, but they have the experience of playing multiple days in a row.”
Like all the recreation tournament teams, the Dixie Minor Rookies have battled Mother Nature over the last few days, but Huner feels the rocky weather will help his team in the long run.
“It is just the time of year it is,” Huner said. “We have hit inside a couple of times, but have also worked outside some. It may rain our first game, and if it does, we will be ready.”
The tournament gets underway on Friday in Enterprise.
