Three people were arrested for third-degree burglary after breaking into a home and stealing two rifles and three pistols, according to Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas.

Jacob Terrell Sterling Golden, 18, of First Avenue in Brundidge, was arrested, along with a 17 year old and a 16 year old, both from Brundidge.

Thomas said authorities were alerted to the crime by a person traveling on Highway 130 who saw male subjects in a Ford Explorer who didn’t belong where they were. When the witness slowed down to take a closer look, the men took off in the vehicle.

Deputies responded to the scene and found the front door to the residence had been forced open, Thomas said.

A “be on the lookout” was issued for the Explorer and spotted by the Brundidge Police Department who recovered two of the five firearms at that time.

Thomas said an investigation lead to the recovery of the other two guns.

“I want to thank the individual who took time to make the call and knew that vehicle didn’t belong at that home,” Thomas said. “Without his help, this case wouldn’t have been solved. And thanks to Brundidge Police Department for being on the lookout and ready.”

Thomas said he believes the home was chosen at random and evidence points to the trio likely being involved in other crimes.

Golden was taken to the Pike County Jail while the minors involved will be handled by Juvenile Court.
