Recreational facilities open in Brundidge

Brundidge’s recreation facilities may look closed for the summer, but that’s not the case, said Pike County Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Bazzell.

“The outside gates of the park are open sunrise to sunset every day of the week,” Bazzell said. “The inside gates for access to ball fields, concession areas and a small playground are not open every day, but they can be opened. All people have to do is let us know.”

Those inside gates remain locked, until a request is made to Principal Willie Wright at Pike County High School. That’s to deter vandalism and criminal activity, Bazzell said.

Brundidge residents simply need to contact Wright and go pick up keys to the facility in order to use the fields or host events, such as family reunions and birthday parties.

When keys are picked up, Bazzell said, a hold harmless agreement must be signed but use of the facility is free.

The Pike County Board of Education partnered with the City of Brundidge on a 15-year lease on the city’s recreation facilities Jan. 15.

The number for Pike County High School is (334) 735-2389.
