Troy head coach Bobby Pierce told The Messenger before the team left for Tallahassee that Auburn has not contacted him about their head coaching vacancy.

Pierce, who will have 25 years as a coach in Alabama in 2015, said “you can’t be a candidate until you are contacted.”

Several blogs and publications including Baseball America have mentioned Pierce as a potential candidate for the Auburn job.

It seems natural for Pierce’s name to surface after the success he has had while at Troy, though it seems retirement is a more likely option than trying to rebuild a program.

Other sources in the athletic department confirm that Auburn has yet to make contact about Pierce.
