Yard sales: The treasures are calling today

If you’re one to go looking for a yard sale bargain, this is your weekend.

Various businesses in Pike County are taking part in the World’s Widest Yard Sale, a three-day event event that promises to span more than 300 miles and attract thousands of shoppers and pickers looking for unique bargains.

Sponsored in Alabama by the Alabama Rural Development Office, several vendors are taking part, from The Pioneer Museum of Alabama to Charles Adams; Lee’s Antiques to the Troy Shrine Club; Hillside Antiques to Pioneer Village.

The event promotes communities along U.S. Highway 80 that are rich in culture, heritage and hospitality. Participating locations will include Troy, Selma, White Hall, Shorter, Prattville, Demopolis, Camden, Monroeville and more. The back-rouds tour promises to provide visitors with adventure and treasure hunting in many of the historical communities of Alabama.

But even more than that, right here in Pike County, dozens of residents have tagged into the weekend are are holding their own yard sales, in neighborhoods and at churches; behind businesses and in front yards. Some started on Friday but most take place today and, as always, we suspect there will be a plenty of bargains and treasures just waiting to be discovered.

So grab your garage sale listings and a good cup of coffee and head out early this morning … the treasures are waiting to be discovered.
