The yearly Brown Bag on the Square series kicks off next week in downtown Troy.
Every year, the city hosts this event once or twice a month during the spring and summer months to bring the community together to relax and interact with one another.
Sheila Jackson, coordinator of the event and Troy’s director of tourism, said that this event is a great way to get all different age groups together to enjoy the beauty of the downtown area.
“It’s great to bring everyone together for a nice outing,” she said. “Even nursing home residents come out for it.”
The event will be starting at noon next Thursday, June 6, and will last an hour.
Jackson said that anyone who wants to join can either bring a brown bag lunch with them or purchase lunch from the surrounding eateries on the square to enjoy.
“We are already expecting around 100 people to attend the event,” she said.
The first event will also showcase live music for entertainment, including DJ Hendock, karaoke, and an acoustic duo as well.
The Southeast Alabama Gas District sponsors this event.
The next Brown Bag series event will be on June 20 at noon. Should the weather permit, there will be another event announced at a later date in August.
