The deadline for early bird registration for Summer Spotlight at Troy University is June 1 so there’s no time to waste.
Early bird registration for the Summer Spotlight camps means a $20 savings. So, call 334-808-6142 for a spot in the Summer Spotlight.
Summer Spotlight features Creative Drama, Performance Intensive and Technical Theatre Intensive camps for ages 4 through incoming freshmen.
The Spotlight on Dance camp, July 8-12, is for ages 8-12 and is all about dance, said Dr. Maryjo Cochran, with the Troy University College of Communication and Fine Arts.
“Spotlight on Dance is a great week full of dance, creative movement, music and fun,” Cochran said. “No dance experience is required. Anyone who enjoys dancing is encouraged to be a part of this great week of dance.”
Professional dancer Julie Mulvihill will be the special guest artist for the Spotlight on Dance camp.
“This is a great opportunity for young dancers to work with a professional dancer, choreographer and teacher, who loves working with young people,” Cochran said.
The Creative Drama Camp, July 14-19, is for ages 4-13 and focuses on acting, movement, storytelling and playwriting.
“This is a camp where creativity runs wild,” Cochran said. “Carson Butterworth is the special guest artist for the camp. Carson acts and directs. She comes to us from Georgia and she loves working with young people in the arts.”
The Performance Intensive and Technical Theater Intensive camps are for high school students and incoming freshmen. The camps are set for July 21-27 and feature an impressive lineup of university faculty members and special guest artists.
Troy University faculty members, Roy Hudson, a former Alabama Teacher of the Year; Quinton Cockrell, actor’s equity; Chris Rich, lighting design and technical direction; and Tori Lee Averett, playwright; are on board for the Intensive camps.
Special guests for the Intensive Camps are Dean McFlicker, Jeremy Rich and Tommy Newman.
“Jeremy Rich is currently casting the hit musical ‘The Book of Mormon’ but he may also be seen in “Jack the Giant Slayer,’ ‘X-men’ and the Broadway Revival of ‘Nine.’”
“The Summer Spotlight camps are wonderful opportunities for young people to spend a week exploring theater and dance,” Cochran said. “We have outstanding faculties for all camps.
“What a ‘chance in a lifetime’ opportunity for young people who live in a city of 17,000 population to get to work with these artists,” Cochran said.
Registration deadline for all camps is July 1.
