SBC meetings end, Troy awarded 2015 baseball tourney

The Sun Belt Conference concluded its annual spring meetings in Destin, Fla., this week. Several topics were discussed including league membership, scheduling and the distribution of revenue.

One of the bigger announcements for Troy was being granted the 2015 Sun Belt Conference baseball tournament. Troy hosted the the tournament in 2009.

Women’s Golf – Steelwood Country Club, Loxley, Ala.

Men’s Golf – Grand Bear Golf Course, Saucier, Miss.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis – City Park Tennis Center, New Orleans, La.

 

The following sites were selected to host Sun Belt Conference Championships for 2014-15:

Cross Country – South Alabama, Mobile, Ala.

Soccer – South Alabama, Mobile, Ala.

Volleyball – Texas State, San Marcos, Texas

Outdoor Track and Field – Louisiana-Lafayette, Lafayette, La.

Softball – Texas State, San Marcos, Texas

 

– The conference also straightened out the issue of football revenue distribution now that several teams have jumped ship for Conference USA. Arkansas State, ULL, ULM, South Alabama, Troy and Western Kentucky will split the $600,000 ($100,000 per) in net revenue generated by the Sun Belt’s four bowl games last year.

– Football scheduling was also resolved at the meeting with an agreement being reached to play eight league games in 2014. This season Sun Belt teams will play just seven conference games. While no new schools were added during the meetings, the conference hopes to reach 12 football playing members by 2015.

– $50,000 was committed to each school to help implement the new Sun Belt Conference logo that was unveiled on Sunday.
