Rock West Baptist Church will celebrate its Fourth Annual May Day Festival from noon until 6 p.m. at the Troy Sportsplex.

May Day is a gift from Rock West Baptist Church to the community.

“It’s a day of family fun and there is no charge,” said Deacon Eric Pouncey, who is in charge of the event. “We want everyone to have an opportunity to come out and have a good time with family and friends in a Christian environment. We want our young people to have the opportunity to interact with older adults and older adults always enjoy the fellowship of young people. May Day brings everybody together for a safe, Christian event.”

Last year’s event was attended by more than 400 people and was a tremendous success.

“We are hoping to have another great event,” he said. “The pool will be open for those who want to swim or just relax in the water. We’ll have a variety of games including softball and basketball for the more active participants.”

Pouncey said the adults will be able to enjoy a cakewalk and Bingo.

There will also be a quiet time when Pastor Charlie Sankey Jr. brings a short inspirational message for all to hear.

“There will be a lot to do indoors so the weather, whether it’s hot or raining, will be not be a factor,” Pouncey said. “Of course, we’ll have good things to eat so it will be a fun day all around.”

The May Day is funded through contributions from individuals, churches and organizations.

“We solicit the attendance of all people as we come together as a community in a positive manner,” Pouncey said. “Those who are unable to attend the May Day activities are invited to join us for Youth Day at Rock West Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
