Mrs. Jean J. Boutwell of Troy passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Troy Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Reverend David “Doc” Kirby and Rev. Dwayne Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery, Hartford Alabama at 3:00 P.M. , where she will be placed next to her father the Reverend James Earnie Joyner and his wife Lelia Pate Joyner. Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 Am at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.
Preceding her in death were her father and Mother and 6 sisters: Mrs. Roy (Maudie Lee) Coe, Mrs. James (Marie) Ezell, Mrs. Clyde (Audrey) Spann, Mrs. Howard (Bonnie) Ward, Mrs. Chester (Monnie) Dykes and Miss Eva Pauline Joyner who died before Jean was born.
Jean was a graduate of Evergreen High School, Evergreen, Alabama, where she was a member of the Beta Club, Rubicon Staff, a cheerleader and upon graduation was presented with a scholarship to (then) Troy State Teachers College.
She traveled extensively visiting Alaska, London, Hawaii, California, Italy, New York, Michigan, the Great Lakes, Utah, Washington, Virginia, Puerto Rico, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, sailed through the Panama Canal and many other destinations. In all she sailed on 19 Cruises.
In 2008 Jean was inducted into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Jean was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Troy and most recently a member of the Bush Memorial Baptist Church in Troy.
Survivors include, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Reba) Crane, Troy, Mr and Mrs. Robin (Liz) Boutwell of Pike Road, Alabama. Her grandchildren: Msgt. Amanda Wall, El Paso, Texas, Mr. Luke Boutwell of Baton Rouge , Louisiania and Miss Grace Boutwell of Auburn, Alabama, Also Great Grandchildren: Ashtyn and Macenzie Wall.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the 81 Supper Club.
