Betty Joyce Townsend

On Monday, May 06, 2013, at Baptist Medical Center South, Ms. Betty Joyce Townsend (affectionately known as “Joyce, Betty Joyce or Betty T”), was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral Services will be held at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church (Linwood Community) 2280 County Road 6600 Troy, Alabama, on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 4:00 P.M., with Pastor Larry G. Bland, officiating. George F. Grubbs Funeral Home, Inc. directing.
Joyce was born July 02, 1948, in Pike County, Alabama, to the late Mr. Wilmer and Effie Mae Townsend. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mrs. Vera Lois Goodman, Mr. Willie Hubert Townsend, and Ms. Cora Jean Townsend.
She confessed Christ at an early age and accepted Christianity as her faith. She united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in the Linwood Community, where she remained faithful until her death. She was a devoted member of the Usher Board.
Joyce attended and graduated from the Hillcrest High School (now Pike County High School) in May 1967.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Leroy Bryant, and to this union six children were born.
She worked a numerous amount of years for the Pike County Board of Education as a cook. Later in life, she decided to work for then Troy State University as a cook. She then ended her job duties as an Environmental Specialist with the Troy City Board of Education when her health began to fail.
Betty Joyce leaves to cherish sweet and precious memories: Six Children: Jackie (Darrick) Rouse, Daphne, Alabama; Vernon Bryant, Troy, Alabama; Kenyon (Letitia) Bryant, Kapolei, Hawaii; LaTwana Bryant, Troy, Alabama; LaShawan Bryant, Montgomery, Alabama; and Marcus (Kristy) Bryant, Brundidge, Alabama; Five Sisters: Laura Mae Ward, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Roberta (James) Anderson, Detroit, Michigan; Ethel Townsend, Troy, Alabama, Shirley Coleman, Union Springs, Alabama and Sherion (Stan) Newby, Troy, Alabama, Three Brothers: Otis Calvin Townsend, Troy, Alabama, Bobby Townsend, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Terry Townsend, Detroit, Michigan, Three Sister-in-laws: Wanda Jean (Samuel) Lewis, Troy, Alabama; Catherine Bryant, Troy, Alabama; and Ruby Doris Bryant, Detroit, Michigan; Two Brother-in-laws: James Bryant, Detroit, Michigan and Willie James Hampton, Troy, Alabama, Thirteen Grandchildren; Seven Great-Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
