Grant said that Pike did not hit the ball nearly as well as the team had in previous games and he said they had too many strikeouts.

“The biggest thing about tonight is that we did not hit the ball well,” Grant said. “We had some strikeouts from folks that normally don’t strike out. We need to put the ball in play better over the next few games.”

Pike was not able to get on the board until the fifth inning, but made it count when they finally did. The Patriots put five runs on the board in the frame, which began with Kristen Finlayson reaching on a walk. Pike Liberal Arts then pounded out five consecutive hits to push across the runs.

Kayla Benton led Pike Liberal at the plate. She went 3-4 with a double and two singles, and also scored a run.

Grant felt that the team might have been a little “out of it” due to a recent stretch of games and extracurricular activities.

“We had quite a few games last week, and the prom,” Grant said. “We have to come out tomorrow and refocus. We want to be playing our best softball of the season right now. We have to keep our mistakes to a minimum, and rebound the rest of the way.”

Pike travels to Edgewood Academy on Tuesday looking to get back in the win column.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
