The Troy Junior Women’s League honored three babies born to TJWL members during the 2012 year with book presentations to the Troy Public Library.

The presentations were made through the TJWL’s annual “Books for Babies” program.

Dana Sanders, chair of the League education committee, said that reading is important to a child’s development and the TJWL donates books to the library to honor the newborns and to show their support of the Troy Public Library’s outstanding children’s programs.

“Every year, the TJWL donates a book in honor of each baby born to a member during that year,” Sanders said. “This year, we honored Addison Marie Cox, Bailey Madison Jones, and Allie Elizabeth Sanders.”

Teresa Colvin, TPL children’s librarian, selects the books to be donated based on the personality of the child.

Addison Marie Cox is the daughter of Paul and Jordan Cox. Her parents said she enjoys her activity station, baby dolls, being nosey and eating anything in sight.

Colvin chose the book “Baby Parade” for Addison Marie.

Bailey Madison’s parents are Travis and Jessica Jones and she loves to listen to her daddy play the guitar and sing, so Colvin chose the book, “I Love My Daddy” in Bailey’s honor.

“When My Baby Dreams of Fairy Tales” is the book that Colvin chose for Allie Elizabeth Sanders, the daughter of Luke and Dana Sanders. Allie Elizabeth likes bath time and playing with her toys. She fills each day with smiles and laughter.

Colvin expressed appreciation to the Troy Junior Women’s League for the book donations.

“Children are the future of our library and we encourage parents to read to their children and it’s never too early to start,” she said. “Reading opens the doors to many worlds of wonder. There’s no substitute for reading.”

The TJWL is a social/service organization. In addition to the “Books for Babies” program, the League sponsors canned food drives, adopts a family at Christmastime, participates in community activities and events and awards annual scholarships.
